The evening began with the Master of Ceremony, DC’s own, Aaron Herkules Graves giving a warm welcome to the audience and giving everyone a small fraction of his own Testimonial of his battle with a rare form of brain cancer that he was diagnosed with at the age of 13 and was told he would only have a month to live. However, through God’s grace and glory the 39 year old, satellite radio on-air personality, ex-WPGC on-air personality for 11 years and entrepreneur is with us today and taking and loving life one day at a time with his wonderful wife KeKe and three children. He has also started Herkules World Charities as a Non-Profit Organization to help create awareness of childhood cancer. Herkules opened the Red Note Evening with a receptive and exciting introduction of violinist, Chelsey Green and The Green Project.
All you can do is look around to see if everyone else is hearing what you’re hearing and then your next thought is OMG!! Chelsey Green is one of the most passionate, vivacious, electrifying, and innovative, Billboard charting violin recording artist, I’d have to say EVER! Miss Green brings the unmatched tone, richness and vibrancy of violin and viola playing to audiences in a whole new way and this performance was no different. Starting the evening with an incredible violin rendition of Beyonce’s Crazy In Love and ending it with Chaka Khan’s Can’t Nobody getting the audience out of their seats and doing a call and answer, it was a night never to be forgotten. She then as a favor to Herkules, slowed it all the way down and gave him some story-telling background music for him to give his whole testimony and message to those struggling with anything that they felt they weren’t able to handle that YOU CAN DO IT!! Chelsey Green and The Green Project’s most recent album, The Green Room, is their second release and first full length album debuted on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album Chart at #22 and #7 on the iTunes Jazz Albums chart! Chelsey Green is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women, Incorporated, American Federation of Musicians and is a Governor on the Board of The Recording Academy Washington, D.C. Chapter.
Songstress Chrisette Michele was of course the anticipation builder and most awaited to hit the stage and she did not disappoint. She had an opening statement of I came to have fun tonight DC! opening with her signature song Epiphany (I’m Leaving) and ending with her most notable song A Couple of Forevers. Miss Michele gave a performance of personal outreach and dialogue with the audience letting us know that all of the songs being screamed out for her to sing I got you and I got you too! and she truly did. We were schooled that Miss Michele did not like having the cameras follow her around during her reality show, but that she did it because she in a way wanted people to know who she is¦ really and that now with her last full album titled Better (2013) that she is indeed Better. It was an intimate evening with the Songstress and she gave a definition to every song that she performed. Now, what a lot of people don’t know is that The Grammy Award-winning songstress stopped by the 2015 ESSENCE Festival and debuted her new venture, a clothing line geared for the girls who love and embrace their hips. This line is called Rich Hipster Belle and it’s for girls with curves and as you can see, I have a couple of those, about two or three of them things! Miss Michele is currently is working on getting her fans a much awaited album released during 2016.
