This year’s Funk Parade kicked off with a Celebration of Women in Funk!Â It was an evening of celebrating the Women of Funk and having a funking good time!Â The Chocolate Burlesque Show was one of the highlights of the evening as well as the Batala Washington Band, Essence of Diva Dancers, and Kim Jade who put on a fantastic show full of Funk, R&B, and Blues.Â Emcee for the evening was the fabulous Deborah Bond and DJ Ayes Cold held it down.
Proceeds from the show will benefit Funk Parade 2015 andÂ Becky’s Fund.
Funk Parade which is a celebration of U Street in the heart of Washington, DC will be held on May 2, 2015 this year.Â Funk Parade is a daylong collaborative celebration of the spirit of funk, which is alive in the music, art and performance of Washington, DC.Â It’s a day fair, participatory parade and evening music festival. It honors the city’s musical heritage and brings together its many communities under the spirit of funk, which connects us all.Â Funk Parade is supported by community leaders, musicians, artists, and over 100 local groups and businesses. Last year’s inaugural Funk Parade was a huge success, with more than 30,000 participants.
Atlas Brew Works, a sponsor of Funk Parade 2015, previewed its new brew, “The 1500 South Cap Lager,” brewed especially for Nationals Park. DC Brau and Atlas are the official beer sponsors of Funk Parade 2015.
