Hailing from Brooklyn by way of Oklahoma, singer, songwriter, and visual artist, Mothica, has established herself as a staple of the underground circuit thanks to a series of lives shows across the nation including SXSW, and collaborations with a number of heavily buzzed producers including Elénne, Icarus Moth, Diversa, Owen Bones, Gladiator, Pusher, and more. Now, ready to embark on the next chapter of a hotly tipped evolving career, Mothica is gearing up for the release of sophomore EP ‘Heavy Heart.’Prior to the full project’s spring 2017 release, Mothica, real name Mackenzie Ellis, has today shared the project’s first cut titled “Sometimes.” Debuted via MILK, “Sometimes” channels the raw emotion of entering into a new relationship:

“I wrote ‘Sometimes’ after experiencing the confusion of dating someone in this current age of constant stimulation. It’s the product of everything feeling up in the air when starting a new relationship; the uncertainty of someone else’s intentions, and emotional availability.  It’s hard to trust your gut when your heart is being mislead. Nobody likes to feel like their time is being wasted.”

The final product is a ethereal culmination of bass music and synth, with Ellis’ haunting vocal top line taking center stage. A somber ode to the uncertainty of a relationship, Ellis’ vocal chops prove the perfect dynamic and robust sound to deliver a core piercing lyrical performance.
If unfamiliar with Ellis’ Mothica moniker before now, the project first emerged back in 2014, with her 2015 debut EP, ‘Mythic,’ establishing the fast-paced trajectory the vocalist has been nurturing ever since. Solidifying Ellis’ position as an emerging artist to keep an eye on, Mothica has received critical praise from a number of taste making outlets include The FADER, Earmilk, Bullett, The 405, Pigeons and Planes, Indie Shuffle, and many more. Aside from a positive critical reception, Mothica has also received a elated reaction from fans that has awarded Ellis over 10 millions plays on Spotify alone.

Up next, expect to catch Ellis live at a number of upcoming shows including Brooklyn Bazaar on May 13th- find tickets here. In addition, stay tuned for more announcements on the upcoming ‘Heavy Heart’ EP out everywhere this spring.
