Rex Tillerson Makes Announcement About His Future In The Trump Administration

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has insisted that he intends to be in his current role for the whole of 2018. It had been widely reported that Tillerson was on his way out of the Trump administration after falling out of favor with President Trump.

In an interview with CNN, Tillerson said, “I think we’re going to have a very productive 2018.” He went on to say “The State Department gets stronger every day, understand what we’re trying to do. And I look forward to having a very, very successful 2018.”

The New York Times reported recently that the White House had planned to oust Tillerson and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. But this has been roundly denied.

The adversarial relationship is well reported as Tillerson is his own man and is quite prepared to stand up to Trump. “I do think one of my roles is to always give him all sides of the issues even when I know it’s not the side that he really wants to consider,” he said. “I think it’s part of making good decisions that I know he at least has had visibility to all aspects of the decision he’s about to make.”

Trump likes to surround himself solely with “yes men” and Tillerson does not fit that mold. A successful businessman in his own right, Tillerson is doing the job he was brought in to do, despite Trump wanting to operate in an echo chamber. It’s about time that someone in the White House did stand up to Trump. But Trump has an ego as soft as melted butter and cannot handle the pressure of the job. That’s why he surrounds himself with mindless sycophants and yes men. It seems that it is only a matter of time before Tillerson gets the Bannon treatment and is banished to be replaced by someone a little more pliable.
