FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Washington, D.C. July 11, 2016 Fresh from their visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, SHAOLIN JAZZ is excited to announce THE PANEL DISCUSSION this Sunday, July 17 at Busboys and Poets, 1025 5th St. NW, 5PM 7PM.

This free panel discussion is the second part of the “SHAOLIN JAZZ in Ethiopia,” program aimed at bridging the gap between DC based and Ethiopian hiphop and jazz artists.

Featured panelists include Wayna, (EthiopianAmerican, Grammynominated vocalist), Keanna Faircloth (host of ‘Evening Jazz’ on WPFW 89.3fm), Asheru (Peabody Awardwinning MC and founder of Guerilla Arts, Inc.), Tewodross Melchishua (awardwinning filmmaker and professor at Bowie State University), Gerald Watson and DJ 2Tone Jones (the creators of SHAOLIN JAZZ).

During their visit, SHAOLIN JAZZ collaborated with a variety of Ethiopian jazz musicians and hiphop artists at various venues, including a gig at the headquarters of the African Union, the US Embassy and Mama’s Kitchen.

They brought a piece of this experience back to the District with “Shaolin Live – The Ethiopia Edition,” a musical showcase last month at Tropicalia, fusing a diverse mix and of Ethiopian jazz and hiphop. It was standing room only as DC’s Sound of the City, Asheru and Rock, and Ras Nebyu took the stage in an amazing performance.
